I bought an '86 Quadrunner 185 a few months back from a family member, and I am in the process of getting everything up and running. I have rebuilt the carburetor, and in the process I guess I must have taken off an air vent hose (according to my Clymer manual) from the carb and whatever it was connected to (I cannot find anywhere in the Clymer manual that shows its connected to anything). I found it laying on the floor as I was putting everything together and cannot for the life of me figure out where it is supposed to connect to. I want to say that it isn't supposed to connect to anything since its labeled as an air vent tube, but that doesn't seem right to me. Also, it has this decompression lever on the motor, which as I understand it, the lever reduces compression so that you can pull start the motor a little easier. ![]() How exactly is this thing supposed to work? I found a motorcycle video on youtube about where he turns the motor over until the compression makes the motor hard to turn over, then holds the lever, spins the motor a little past TDC, lets go of the lever and then turns the motor over and it starts. I assume it is the same for an ATV? And also, when you pull on the lever, it likes to stick in the open compression (?) position, which doesn't seem right to me. It will stay open while you pull on the rope, and after the motor spins a little, it will close on its own. I would assume that as soon as I let go of the lever, it would close on its own. The spring that the cable is connected to seems fine to me, so I am led to think that maybe something in the motor maybe gummed up? Any help would be greatly appreciated! First off, welcome to the forum. As for that extra went hose I'm not to sure where it connects to. But i have a service manual available that should tell you where each hose goes on the atv. If your interested then download this: ( ) It's a 1984 - 1987 Suzuki LT185 Service Manual, (PDF) As for the decompression lever, you are correct on the assumption that it reduces the amount of pressure inside the engine thus making recoil starting (Pull Rope) the atv easier. DIGGING DEEP NO 201. INTRODUCTION: When God told Moses to build Him a tabernacle, He insisted that every major vessel within it must be. This is first accomplished by flipping decompression lever then grasping the recoil starter. After you've successfully started the atv using the recoil starter the decompression lever should return to the neutral position on it's own once the engine's started. 1985 Suzuki Lt 185 CarburetorThat download link didn't work for some reason.ill have to mess with it later. On the decompression lever, when I squeeze it I can see the lever moving on the block, and when you let go of it, it stays there. I would assume that when you let go of the lever it should also move to the closed position? If it is, would you have any idea of what would be causing it to stick? I also learned a valuable lesson, dont mess with the spring in the recoil starter!
